An extensible simulation environment and movement metrics for testing walking behavior in agent-based models

چکیده
Human movement is a significant ingredient of many social, environmental, and technical systems, yet the importance of movement is often discounted in considering systems’ complexity. Movement is commonly abstracted in agent-based modeling (which is perhaps the methodological vehicle for modeling complex systems), despite the influence of movement upon information exchange and adaptation in a system. In particular, agent-based models of urban pedestrians often treat movement in proxy form at the expense of faithfully treating movement behavior with realistic agency. There exists little consensus about which method is appropriate for representing movement in agent-based schemes. In this paper, we examine popularly-used methods to drive movement in agent-based models, first by introducing a methodology that can flexibly handle many representations of movement at many different scales and second, introducing a suite of tools to benchmark agent movement between models and against realworld trajectory data. We find that most popular movement schemes do a relatively poor job of representing movement, but that some schemes may well be “good enough” for some An extensible simulation environment and movement metrics for testing walking behavior in agent-based models Revised manuscript Click here to view linked References

Building Agent-Based Walking Models by Machine-Learning on Diverse Databases of Space-Time Trajectory Samples
We introduce a novel scheme for automatically deriving synthetic walking (locomotion) and movement (steering and avoidance) behavior in simulation from simple trajectory samples. We use a combination of observed and recorded real-world movement trajectory samples in conjunction with synthetic, agent-generated, movement as inputs to a machine-learning scheme. This scheme produces movement behavi...
متن کاملAn Analysis to Wealth Distribution Based on Sugarscape Model in an Artificial Society
In this paper an artificial society is being assumed as a multi agents system. A sugarscape model consisting of a cellular landscape of resources is used to form an interaction among the agents of the population. In the model, agents find the resources to survive. They are supposed to move and search and because of this movement, an evolutionary social behavior will develope. From model analys...
متن کاملAgent Based Simulation of Sale and Manufacturing Agents Acting Across a Pharmaceutical Supply Chain
Agent based modeling and simulation consider the behavior of agents acting in a system. The agents' interactions result in changing the agent’s behavior, the whole agent based system, and its environment. In this study, the manufacturing, sale, and receiving orders behaviors pertinent to manufacturing and sale agents acting across a pharmaceutical supply chain of an Iranian manufacturing medici...

The aim of this paper is to consider what constitutes agent-based modelling (ABM) and how this can relate to archaeological reasoning. The development and construction of ABM models is an essential prerequisite for most archaeological reasoning. Both directly and indirectly, archaeologists are making extensive use of ideas and methods in applications that derive from archaeological, anthropolog...
